Ardaman & Associates, Inc. Orlando Dewatering System for Construction of the Intake Structure for the Martin Combined Cycle Project Units 3&4, Indiantown, Florida Florida Power & Light.

Ardaman & Associates, Inc. conceived an alternative construction sequence and designed an associated dewatering system to excavate and construct an intake structure for a major FP&L Power Plant expansion. The design consisted of a unique and innovative dewatering system designed to allow construction within the cooling pond to proceed "in the dry".

The engineering profession will gain from software developed to analyze ground water flow, that can be applied for future projects. The project was a very complex dewatering effort encompassing a deep excavation within an active cooling pond, complicated by the complex interaction of a limestone layer, a deeper semi-confining clay layer and restrictions on drawdown adjacent to the site.

The client's needs were fully met in that the alternate construction sequence allowed the critical path excavation to be completed ahead of schedule and below the budget, allowing the structure to be completed 27 days ahead of a very aggressive schedule.
